Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice & Health Services provides all services on a not-for-profit basis. All our revenue is invested in providing the highest quality care possible for our clients and health education support for their caregivers at home. This is just one reason that we say, “Our specialty is caring!”

To continue to ensure exceptional services for everyone in our community who qualifies for home care, whether or not they have sufficient resources to pay for it, we need your help.

Help us keep home care for everyone in our community!  Adequate reimbursement has long been a challenge for our rural, nonprofit agency. But we need your help NOW more than ever! Some of the recent health care reforms will pose new challenges. Competition from large, national home health chains as well as minimally qualified independent providers is increasing in our area. Most of these provide a minimal level of service to meet regulatory guidelines and serve only the more profitable clients.

Appalachian Community goes beyond the regulations in promoting the health and safety of our community members in their homes. Some may call this “overhead.” We call it the kind of responsive, proactive care that our community needs and deserves. We are grateful for the valuable contributions of a caring community in helping us continue in our mission. Please note:

● All free-will donations to the Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice & Health Services are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

● We publish all contributions in our Horizons newsletter, issued three times a year. Please let us know if you do not want your gift to be published and/or if you do not want your address to be added to our newsletter mailing list.

● We offer the following payment options:

Commemorative Gifts

Many of the gifts we receive are designated in memory of or in honor of someone special to the donor. We gladly notify the honoree, a family member, or another loved one of these commemorative gifts (please provide a complete mailing address for the person to be notified if at all possible).

Recurring Gifts

You may wish to pledge an amount to be contributed on a monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis. Please just let us know if you are pledging a recurring gift and the amount and frequency at which you are pledging. We will send you a reminder when your pledge payment is due.

The Margaret F. Frey Scholarship Fund

Margaret F. “Marnie” Frey was a co-founder of Appalachian Community in the early 1980’s, and continued to lead the agency until her retirement in 2008. The Margaret F. Frey Scholarship Fund was established on Marnie’s retirement to honor her outstanding achievements and her invaluable service to our community. Gifts designated to the fund promote excellence in care giving by providing supplementary assistance to Appalachian Community staff members pursuing further education or credentials in the field of health care.

The Appalachian Community Veterans and Commemorative Gardens

Celebrate the life of a loved one by purchasing an engraved commemorative brick to be installed in the walkways of either our Veteran's Garden or our Commemorative Garden. The Gardens are located at the site of our offices at 30 Herrold Ave. in Athens, Ohio.   Granite paver-sized bricks with three lines of text or larger granite bricks with five lines of text are available. Brick sales help support home health and hospice care. For more information, see the commemorative brick order form (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) or contact Kathy or Milena at 594-8226, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
