About Us
Our History
In the early 1980’s, local nurses Marnie Frey and Kathy Dansky shared a vision of providing home nursing services to better meet the health care needs of our community. In 1982 the Athens County Visiting Nurse Association was created. In 1984 these two pioneering women formed a second company offering private duty personal care and homemaking services, and added hospice services shortly thereafter.
A 1997 merger of these two companies formed one corporation with three distinct but complementary clinical programs, and today’s Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice & Health Services, Inc. was born. Despite name and address changes over the years, one fact has remained constant, and our Mission Statement says it all: “We are Southeast Ohio’s primary source of quality home care, striving to identify and fulfill the healthcare needs of our Appalachian community.”
What is a VNA?
All Visiting Nurse Associations are home care agencies, but not all home care agencies are Visiting Nurse Associations.
Appalachian Community VNA is a local chapter of the Visiting Nurse Association of America, and the only VNA chartered in our local area. Visiting Nurse Associations are community-based, nonprofit home health and hospice providers with a rich American history of home nursing. VNA’s provide cost-effective and compassionate home care to our nation’s most vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly and disabled. We offer care, support and advocacy for all individuals who qualify for home care, regardless of their ability to pay. Appalachian Community Visiting Nurse Association is proud to be a part of this time honored tradition.
